Never Met a Stranger, airing Sunday, Dec. 31 at 3:30/2:30 pm on KET, brings together two Kentuckians in long-term recovery from substance-use disorder.

The pair – Ashley and Carl – meet on camera for the first time and, without a host or moderator, answer a set of powerful questions that enable them to share their inspirational stories of struggle, strength and hope.

Ashley lives in Lexington and is studying to be a substance-abuse counselor. Carl lives in Eastern Kentucky, where he works with Operation UNITE as their coalition coordinator. Both lost nearly everything due to opioid addiction.

Never Met a Stranger is a response to viewers’ requests for more stories of people living healthy, meaningful lives in long-term recovery, following the release of KET’s Journey to Recovery documentary, which outlined various treatment approaches for opioid addiction.

Through real, unfiltered dialogue, viewers learn about Carl and Ashley’s hopes and dreams as young people and how they first started using – as well as the moment they knew they had to stop.
