KET announces new ‘Kentucky Life’ host

For Release: 08/26/15 2:56 PM

Doug Flynn, former Major League Baseball player and part-time Cincinnati Reds broadcaster, will be the new host of the popular KET series Kentucky Life when the series premieres its 21st season in November.

“Doug knows Kentucky well and is a wonderful storyteller,” said KET executive director Shae Hopkins. “He’ll bring an energy and enthusiasm to the series that viewers are sure to appreciate.”

“As host, it will be an honor and privilege to carry on this rich tradition of sharing our state’s proud history, geographic diversity and natural beauty with my fellow Kentuckians,” said Flynn.

During an 11-year MLB career, Flynn won two world championships with the Reds and a Gold Glove award at second base for the New York Mets.

Born and raised in Lexington, Flynn currently resides there with his wife, Olga. Since 1997 he has been a banking officer with Central Bank & Trust, and he is involved with numerous civic and charitable organizations, including Hope for the Warriors and the American Association for the Prevention of Substance Abuse in Athletics. A graduate of Somerset Community College, Flynn is also a member of the Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame.

Flynn follows former Kentucky Life hosts Dave Shuffett and Byron Crawford.

Kentucky Life is a KET production, produced by Brandon Wickey. Craig Cornwell is executive producer.
