For Release: 01/26/15 12:38 PM
The next episode of Kentucky Life travels to northern Kentucky, for an “Our Town” spotlight of Bellevue and a sampling of the menu at Chandler’s restaurant in Maysville. The program also features Lincoln County farmers Susan and George Miller and highlights the work of the St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead. The program airs Saturday, Feb. 21 at 8/7 pm and Sunday, Feb. 22 at 4/3 pm on KET and Monday, Feb. 23 at 7/6 pm on KET2.
Founded on the banks of the Ohio River in 1812, Bellevue retains not one but two historic districts, featuring a variety of inviting shops and businesses. Kentucky Life tours downtown and explores the city’s rich and unusual history, including a retrospective look at its former Queen City Beach – a popular place to while away a summer day in the early 1900s – and the city’s reputation as a center for homing pigeon enthusiasts in the early 20th century.
Next, the show stops at Chandler’s restaurant in picturesque downtown Maysville for a “Today’s Special” segment to sample the restaurant’s customer-favorite cheese steak sandwich.
Then, Kentucky Life profiles wife and husband farming pair Susan and George Miller of Lincoln County, who run a roadside produce stand where they successfully sell their coveted, homegrown heirloom tomatoes and other garden harvests.
The show also travels to Morehead to spotlight the work of the St. Claire Regional Medical Center, which opened in 1963 with just 41 beds. Today, the hospital has grown to more than 150 beds and treats roughly half a million patients a year. The Catholic, not-for-profit hospital has had a long partnership with the Sisters of Notre Dame of Covington.
Finally Kentucky Life profiles Sister Jeanne Francis Cleves, a nurse and member of the Sisters of Notre Dame who received a lifetime service honor for her more than 40 years of work at both St. Claire and in nursing positions overseas. This segment was produced by students at Morehead State University’s Communications Department.
