The next episode of KET’s Kentucky Life showcases the Treetop Adventure at Levi Jackson Wilderness Road State Park, Georgetown’s Ward Hall, The Feminist Artists of Kentucky and The Filson Historical Society in Louisville. The episode airs Saturday, May 5 at 8/7 pm and Sunday, May 6 at 4/3 pm on KET and Monday, May 7 at 7/6 pm on KET2.
First, Kentucky Life travels to Laurel County, where host Doug Flynn braves the Treetop Adventure at Levi Jackson Wilderness Road State Park near London. With five courses featuring tunnels, tightropes, nets, swings and other obstacles, the aerial ropes course lets visitors challenge friends and family to a race to the finish in a unique outdoor setting.
Then, the program heads to Georgetown to visit Ward Hall, one of the grandest Greek Revival residences in Kentucky – and the country. Built around 1857 for Junius Richard Ward and his wife, Matilda Viley Ward, at a cost of $50,000 in gold, the 12,000-square foot estate features 27-foot fluted Corinthian columns and numerous elements designed by influential 19th century American architect Minard Lafever.
Next, Kentucky Life spotlights The Feminist Artists of Kentucky. Founded in 2013 by six female artists, the group has raised thousands of dollars for local and international charities.
Finally, the program shares the history and work of The Filson Historical Society in Louisville. Founded in 1884, The Filson’s mission is preserving the history of Kentucky and the Ohio Valley Region. After nearly 130 years of collecting history, art and artifacts, the historical society realized it needed more room and undertook a two-year renovation and expansion of its headquarters at the Ferguson Mansion on Third Street, including adding the new Owsley Brown II History Center and five floors of additional archive space.
