For Release: 05/23/19 11:04 AM

The next episode of KET’s Kentucky Life spotlights an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., racing enthusiast Bill Marvel and Louisville artist Elmer Lucille Allen. The episode airs Saturday, May 25 at 8/7 pm and Sunday, May 26 at 4/3 pm on KET and Monday, May 27 at 7/6 pm on KET2.

First, Kentucky Life follows along on an Honor Flight from Louisville to Washington, D.C., on which a group of World War II veterans commemorate the anniversary of D-Day. The attendees – including Ernest Micka of Louisville and Glenn Fisher of Bedford, Ky., who are interviewed in the segment – tour the nation’s capital and spend time at the National World War II Memorial.

Next, Kentucky Life talks with racing enthusiast Bill Marvel, who now lives in Liberty but grew up just outside of Indianapolis – hence the source of his passion for all things Indy 500. This year, Marvel will make his 75th consecutive visit to the iconic IndyCar race. Marvel talks about his career as a race track marketer and manager and shares his extensive racing collection, including helmets signed by drivers, letters from presidents and hundreds of photos.

Then, Kentucky Life heads to Louisville to spotlight the career and work of artist Elmer Lucille Allen, who is skilled in both ceramics and textiles. Allen has focused on her art career since retiring in 1997 from a 31-year career as a chemist at Brown-Forman. Recently, her work was showcased at the Carnegie Center for Art and History in New Albany, Ind.

The program also shares the scenic beauty of a rock climb near Red River Gorge.

Kentucky Life is a KET production, produced by Brandon Wickey. Segment producers for this episode are Tom Bickel, Brandon Wickey, Valerie Trimble and Jim Voskuhl.
