For Release: 11/06/15 2:20 PM
In its next episode, Kentucky Life celebrates the rich history of two Kentucky communities celebrating their bicentennial in 2015: Covington and Daviess County. The program airs Saturday, Nov. 21 at 8/7 pm and Sunday, Nov. 22 at 4/3 pm on KET and Monday, Nov. 23 at 7/6 pm on KET2.
First, the program showcases the history of Covington, from its founding and role as a Gateway City to the West to its present status as a modern city of impressive walkability, diversity and culture. Kentucky Life examines the role of German immigrants in the 1830s and 1840s in shaping Covington’s development; the fame of its Stewart Ironworks; the opening of the iconic Roebling Bridge in 1867; and its status as the birthplace of two Kentucky governors as well as leaders in music, film, architecture, baseball and more.
Then, Kentucky Life travels to Daviess County, which, like Covington, was founded in 1815 and has a rich history and heritage of its own. The program showcases, in particular, the history of African-American residents in the community and the ways that the county has celebrated its bicentennial through various civic events.
Next, Kentucky Life profiles singer-songwriter Marty Brown of Simpson County, who – thanks to an appearance on America’s Got Talent in 2013 – is back in the recording studio after his career in the country music industry had stalled in the 1990s with just one single on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts. Now, partnering with esteemed music producer Keith Stegall, who has worked with Alan Jackson among other chart-toppers, Brown hopes to rekindle his musical aspirations.
Finally, the program travels to Ashland, for a stop in at Suplex Tacos, where Ray, Sergio and Ron Garcia, three brothers from San Diego, have set up shop. Their hit restaurant – decorated in an unexpected, wrestling theme – serves West Coast/SoCal-style Mexican food named for wrestling moves and lingo, including their best-selling Tag-Team Burritos and Contender Chimichangas.
