PBS LearningMedia, the media-on-demand service that provides educational resources for K-12 classrooms – and which is provided through KETEncycloMedia in Kentucky – has announced the launch of a new app for students.

With the launch of the app, “students can now access thousands of learning resources on the mobile devices that they use every day, including resources produced by KET, such as Exploraciones, a new world-language collection, and Math at the Core, a collection of middle-school math resources,” said Brian Spellman, KET’s director of K-12 school services.

The PBS Student app allows users to watch and learn with videos, games and images from PBS and PBS KIDS content including resources from NOVA, Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood and the Ken Burns collection. The app provides access to thousands of resources covering all subject areas, from math and science to English and social studies.

“We know that students, as well as teachers, are using apps to access educational content and digital media to bring subjects and concepts to life at home and in the classroom,” said Alicia Levi, vice president of education at PBS. “Research has shown that our content impacts student achievement, and we are committed to making that content available to students wherever they are, whenever they want to learn. We are excited to launch this free app and offer students a fresh and easy way to explore and learn using digital media.”

“PBS LearningMedia has quickly become a popular and trusted resource for Kentucky schools and teachers,” said Spellman. “We are very excited about all the possibilities this new app brings to our students, educators and parents in expanding their learning experiences beyond the classroom walls.”

The new PBS Student app is available for free in iTunes for use on Apple products.

PBSLearning Media includes more than 100,000 digital resources – including 3,000 online learning resources created by KET — that engage students in exploring curriculum concepts that align with National and Common Core State Standards.
